Skagafjörður has many varied and beautiful walking trails, be it for short hikes and light outdoor activities or longer more challenging treks for the more experienced hikers. It is riveting to see Skagafjörður take on a completely new image when viewed from one of the surrounding mountains.
Some trails in the mountains are pegged and are accessable to most walkers. Two trail maps have been published for the mountain range in the west of Skagafjörður and four trail maps for the mountain range Tröllaskagi to the east.
Trail maps and other useful information regarding treks and mountain cabins can be obtained at the tourist Information centres in Varmahlíð and Sauðárkrókur.
